The Directory

The cover of the 2008 Edition of The Directory, our Ka'u Business and Community Resource Guide, features a painting titled "Punalu`u Outcropping" by Dale Addlesberger.

Artist Statement: For the past five years I've been working mainly with acrylic paint which tends to five a more plastic look than oils. I've been experimenting with frontalism, where I pull everything to the front of the picture plane, trying to create the illusion of perspective by the use of size, shape and the relationship of color next to color, and not by the traditional rules of perspective. Punalu`u Outcropping is an example of this experiment.

The Directory 2008 is widely available and can be picked up for free at merchants throughout Ocean View, Na'alehu, Pahala and Volcano.
